FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Multicase Inc has received NIH SBIR Phase II award.

The continuation of the Mutagenicity Data Sharing Project

April 1st, 2002.

The research team of Multicase Inc. has been awarded a Small Business  Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from NIH to develop a superior tool to predict the Mutagenic Potential of New Pharmaceuticals. The specific objectives of the project are to assemble a consortium consisting of members of the CDER office of the FDA, from the Pharmaceutical Industries and from Academia to build a central pool of Salmonella mutagenicity databases for use with Multicase's programs This will benefit regulatory agencies as well as the pharmaceutical industry by providing a shared resource, avoiding costly duplication of tests. We see possible applications of the resulting mutagenicity models as follows:

bullet· To be used at the FDA to provide information for research and regulatory decision support.
bullet· To be made available to the public via Internet access on subscription base.
bullet· To be made available at no cost to NIH grantees via Internet access.
bullet· To be used by the pharmaceutical industry for prescreening drug candidates.
bullet· To be used to screen other chemicals such as new food additives, cosmetics, as well as agricultural products such as herbicides and pesticides.
